Basil Borutski

According to court records and multiple credited Canadian news outlets, Basil Borutski was convicted in 2017 of three counts of first-degree murder for the killings of three former intimate partners in Renfrew County, Ontario. The court found that the offences were connected to a history of intimate partner violence and coercive control. Borutski was sentenced to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole for 25 years.

According to CityNews reporting, James Theramene, 31, of Laval, Quebec, was arrested shortly after a woman was allegedly pushed from a third-floor balcony of a Montréal apartment building on New Year’s Day 2026. The woman, identified as Tadjan’ah Desir, subsequently died in hospital; authorities have characterized the incident as involving an altercation between the two as ex-partners. Theramene was charged with aggravated assault related to the incident, and prosecutors were considering upgrading the charges after her death.

Location: Town of Erin, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada

According to the Grand 101.1 FM and local Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) news release, Austin Cardinell, a 35-year-old resident of Erin, Ontario, was charged on December 2, 2025 following a domestic disturbance investigation conducted by members of the Wellington County OPP. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in Erin and, after investigation, laid charges under the Criminal Code of Canada for assault — spousal. Cardinell was later released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
